Early in my career I had a conversation with a Finance Director about why they made certain decisions about the structure of the group 25 years ago.

That was when I decided I didn't want to work to fix finance functions of corporates who were decades old. I wanted to build the finance function the correct way in the first instance.

So I moved into leading the finance functions of VC-backed startups and PE-backed scaleups in SaaS, technology, AI and professional services. 

​

There I saw first hand the financial and time cost of hiring the wrong employees and of running a finance function that is reactive to external factors rather than proactive in its support of strategic decisions and growth.
